EcoCare Projects

Following in the footsteps of David Loy and the Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Center, we are bringing educational and hands-on programs to restore a sense of kinship with the Pluriverse to inhabitants of rural areas of the Dominican Republic.

Ecodharma refers to efforts in contemporary Buddhism to respond to the ecological crisis that threatens the pluriverse and the survival of our species. In this sense, Buddhism is deemed a philosophy, a way of living that is congruent with the perennial wisdom of indigenous communities.  Our efforts draw particularly from the Taino and Yoruba ways of caring for the Earth. Our educational and practical programs aim at restoring a sense of kinship with the Pluriverse. The programs address the poly-crisis we are enduring and explore sustainable ways to stop the planet's destruction by human activities.

Mindful Writing

We have launched our first Mindful Writing Project with the youths of El Gramazo, Padre Las Casas. Love Letters to the Earth is a writing program inspired by the work of Vietnamese Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. The participants are encouraged to write love letters to Mother Earth, highlighting ways to care for the environment: to care for the self and the collective at once.
